| A Modoc Indian named Captain Jack shot U.S. Gen. E.R.S. Canby at a peace conference in California in 1878. Earlier, he'd been a key Civil War commander, and, in fact, had accepted the surrender of Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith's Confederate army in New Orleans a full six weeks AFTER Lee surrendered in Virginia. The text includes some brief genealogical background on Canby, who was born in Kentucky and grew up in Indiana. This 8 1/2 by 11 inch booklet has eight pages. It includes three full pages of text, two illustrations of Canby, plus illustrations of Captain Jack and Scarfaced Charley. The price is $7.95. |
